David Parkyn to campaign for Progressive party votes in Waitakere
West Auckland writer David Parkyn has been selected as the Progressive Party's candidate in Waitakere for this year's
general election where he will be campaigning for party votes. "David is an excellent candidate for our party in this
electorate. He is a long-time resident of the West, going back to Tim Shadbolt and other communards in Huia. He has
raised his family in Titirangi, is well known in the community and well-placed to raise Progressive's party vote tally
later this year," deputy leader, Hon. Matt Robson MP said.
"Our government today is a coalition between two parties, Helen Clark's Labour Party and Jim Anderton's Progressive
Party," David Parkyn said.
"Policy discussions and negotiations between the two parties occur around committee tables, and never via the news
media. That means that the Progressive Party's public profile is very limited between General Elections.
"With the coming election campaign, however, there will be more scope for Progressive candidates to promote our
distinctive policy ambitions directly to the community and I am really looking forward to doing that here in Waitakere,"
David Parkyn said.

The Progressive Party is a partner in the coalition government first elected in 1999. Its leader, Jim Anderton, is the
third-ranked Cabinet Minister with responsibility for Industry and Regional Development and driving the Ministerial
Committee on Drug Policy. Matt Robson's Sale of Liquor (Youth Alcohol Harm Reduction) Amendment Bill, which proposes new
regulations on liquor advertising and to raise the minimum alcohol purchasing age to twenty, will be considered by
Parliament on June 8.
