New Zealand’s contribution to Shinto idolatry
The Prime Minister of New Zealand who has blasphemed the name of the Triune God without apology bravely announced the
gift of another “sacred horse” to a Japanese Shinto Shrine. Will she blaspheme the Shinto gods, I wonder? While an
earlier National Prime Minister also promoted this nonsense, Christians must speak out and disassociate themselves from
such folly and idolatry. These horses are dedicated to the Shinto gods, idols of a religion which caused the death of
thousands of allied troops, including many New Zealanders. Giving these horses over to idolatrous functions is an
arrogant insult to our returned servicemen and their widows who suffered as a direct result of the Shinto religion and
world view.
These are the same gods, which motivated the inhuman and evil treatment of prisoners of war by Japanese pagans. It
should be deemed the highest insult to any decent thinking New Zealander that the Japanese people, in the past vicious
persecutors of Christians and Christianity, could believe for one moment that Christian New Zealanders at all approved
of the Prime Minister’s and the Labour government’s participation in this idolatry.
The reality is that if the Prime Minister cared for one moment about the spiritual condition of the Japanese people,
she would have nothing to do with supplying a horse destined for idolatrous duties in the name of all New Zealanders.
And if she was at all concerned how New Zealand Christians might feel about this, she would have politely refused to
perpetuate this Kiwi connection with the Shinto gods.
