On 5 May last year the foreshore and seabed hikoi arrived in Wellington in a spectacular display of unity against the foreshore and seabed legislation and protest at continued government failure to honour the Treaty of Waitangi. In November the confiscation legislation was passed, and in March the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) released its decision on it. Since then plans for extensive sand mining and seabed exploration for mineral extraction have been made public. These issues and more will be covered in this forum.
