Give Mum A Goat For Mother's Day
For Immediate Release: 02/05/05
Aid organisation TEAR Fund is offering New Zealanders the chance to buy their mums something really different this
Mother's Day.
TEAR Fund New Zealand's Gift for Life catalogue includes items like a goat, a fly-free toilet, or a literacy teacher.
"We send anyone who buys an item a beautiful card to give to their mother, with a picture and description of the gift,
but the goat or toilet goes to a person who really needs it in a developing country like Afghanistan or Cambodia," says
TEAR Fund Executive Director Steve Tollestrup.
The catalogue was hugely popular last Christmas. "A lot of people who buy gifts from this catalogue are really wanting
to do something different from candles and bath salts."
The catalogue includes nine items, which range in price from $25 for a midwife kit, to $400, which buys a playground for
Ugandan orphans.
Other unusual gifts include cows, schoolbooks, Microenterprise loans and toys for hospitalised children in Iraq.
"When spent in the right place, even a small amount of money can make a significant difference. Gifts in this catalogue
empower entire communities, bring hope to those in desperate need," says Stephen Tollestrup.
