New Party, New Start
New Zealand’s newest political party, Republic Aotearoa New Zealand Party will announce its candidate for Hamilton West this Thursday. “We want this country to become a republic,” says party founder Kerry Bevin. “It’s ridiculous for us to continue as a monarchy, even Prince Charles agrees with that.”
Mr Bevin said that becoming a republic would be an important part of New Zealand’s evolution to full maturity as an independent nation state. “We are a culturally diverse country in the South Pacific and need to think about our future as people with roots in the Pacific rather than elsewhere.” Mr Bevin said The Republicans would be announcing more candidates in the lead up to the elections.
“It’s time for a new start, time to become our own people.”
Ends
Party Launch, Methodist Hall, cnr Victoria & London Streets, Hamilton 8.00pm, Thursday 7 April.
