AMP gives giant cheque to World Vision's tsunami appeal
When Stephen White, Acting Managing Director for AMP's Financial Services (NZ) presented a large cheque of 25,792.35 to World Vision's Marketing Director Bruce Waldin, he said it represented a lot of sausages.
The fundraising efforts of the Wellington staff, who held a sausage sizzle, a movie premiere with spot prizes, a raffle with the prize of a free day off work, and a mufti day at work, contributed to AMP's generous donation to the Tsunami Appeal.
"It was the staff who initiated this fundraising and the staff who worked so hard to achieve such a great result," he said.
AMP staff returned from their Christmas break with a strong desire to do something as a corporation to help victims of the Tsunami, said Mr White. AMP's advisor networks were also asking what the organisation was going to do to help. "I think, like many New Zealanders, we all felt better about doing something to contribute to such a widespread disaster."
World Vision's Bruce Waldin said the response from the New Zealand public was overwhelming. "This tragedy really touched people's hearts, and it touched people in their workplaces too. Many companies like AMP were compelled to help, by their staff, because people had such a desire to do something as a corporate entity. World Vision is extremely grateful to companies such as AMP who really stepped up and contributed in a big way."
World Vision raised $4.2 million from private donations for the Tsunami appeal and Mr Waldin said money is still coming in.
