Supreme Court Judge honoured
1 April 2005 The Rt Hon Peter Blanchard receives the insignia of Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit from the Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright at Government House in Wellington today. Mr Blanchard''s citation reads: " For services to the judiciary. Peter Blanchard was appointed a Judge of the High Court in 1992, the Court of Appeal in 1996 and more recently to the Supreme Court. Prior to his appointment to the Bench he was in private practice specialising in the areas of commercial and land law. For many years he was a consultant to the Auckland District Law Society’s Property and Business Law Committee. He is a member of the New Zealand Council of Law Reporting,served on the New Zealand Law Society’s Legislation Committee, and was a member of the New Zealand Law Commission for two years. He is the author of several standard legal texts and In 1998 was appointed a member of Her Majesty’s Privy Council."
