New problem gambling regulations supported

"We are very excited about the impact of Regulations 5 and 11 on problem gambling, and support all regulations to
minimise gambling harm," says John Stansfield, CEO of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand (PGF).
"In any transaction consumers have the right to know the risks. If they don't know the risks, how can they make informed
choices?" says John Stansfield, CEO of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand.
"Gambling operators have absolute responsibility to give accurate information about the odds. Not to do so is
irresponsible and will encourage problem gambling," says Mr Stansfield.
"We believe that many electronic gaming machines distort people's thoughts about what the odds are," says Mr Stansfield.
"The implementation of these regulations alerts not only gambling operators, but the local community to the signs of
problem gambling and how to get help. This is so very important when seven people are affected by one person's problem
gambling behaviours."
"The work of the Department of Internal Affairs to increase awareness of gambling harms is a step in the right direction
to eliminating the harm caused by gambling."
"We look forward to working further with the Department to find ways to eliminate the harm from gambling in New
Zealand."
