Te Kaumaarua to stay at 10 members until next election
The executive of the Waikato-Raupatu Lands Trust, Te Kaumaarua, will stay at 10 members and two vacancies will not be
filled until the board’s current term expires in February next year.
Te Kaumaarua Chairman, Kingi Porima, said the issue was put to Te Kauhanganui, the Waikato-Tainui tribal parliament at
its meeting last November, which in turn decided the executive should make the final decision. That decision was made at
Tuesday’s meeting of Te Kaumaarua.
Mr Porima said the executive put forward three options for Te Kauhanganui:
Hold fresh elections Co-opt members onto the board until the current term expires (Feb 2006) Leave the seats vacant
until the current term expires (Feb 2006)
Mr Porima said the current board felt it could carry on with its work programme, which has already been set and endorsed
by Te Kauhanganui, with the current 10 board members.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting a delegation from Horahora Marae came to discuss the removal of Haydn Solomon from the
executive. Kingi Porima said the executive will respond to the issues raised by the delegation by way of a letter.
The meeting also addressed a request to change name of the executive from Te Kaumaarua to Te Arataura.
Kingi Porima said the executive has endorsed the name change and it will go to Te Kauhanganui for a final decision in
May.
“We also started work on setting the terms of reference for the human resources review of board and management practises
which was signalled at the end of last year and endorsed by Te Kauhanganui,” Mr Porima said.
