Terri Schiavo – Would she live in New Zealand?
Where are all the feminists and people concerned with minority rights in the Terri Schiavo affair? They have gone
strangely silent.
Doesn't it seem incredible that a judge in a Christian country would order that someone starve to death? This is what
has happened in the US and we noticed that it is the Christians who are concerned about the life of this women, while
the husband who has broken his wedding vows, tries to claim he loves the brain-damaged woman more than her parents, and
argues that she should die.
You see in this situation the struggle between those who are maligned as the religious right or fundamentalists on the
side of life; while the leftists politically, morally and theologically are baying for the death of this dear soul. As
we see in our own society, the neo-pagans choose death, darkness and hate, while the Christians strive for life, love
and hope.
Believers in evolution (and evolutionism is a faith-based religion) usually believe that all that exists can be
experienced by the senses. Terri Schiavo, therefore, is just another evolved animal who is nearing the end of her life
and “probably” doesn’t know what is going on; “so let’s put her out of her misery and starve her to death”. Another
assumption of those who prescribe starvation is that you have to have a certain degree of “normalcy” to be human and to
have a quality of life worth having.
The frightening thing about this scenario is that unless there is a religious revival and therefore the adoption of a
culture of life to replace our present culture of death, we will soon be starving the living to death in our own
country, whose loving parents want the person to live.
If you walked up to someone in the street fifty years ago how would they have responded if you had said: “there is a
sick lady in the hospital. All her organs are functioning, but we have decided that she cannot be really happy, so we
will starve her to death. It should only take two weeks and if she is in any pain we will give her some pain relief
(unlike unborn children being aborted who die in excruciating pain)”? They would have thought you had lost your marbles.
How crazy is it that a woman who tried to give Terri a sip of water was arrested by six burly policemen?
This is a lesson in human depravity, but it is also a lesson that we are doing something very dangerous if we put too
much power in the hands of judges. In our own country, there are no doubt many judges who are pagans and atheists and
who will have no compunction in starving someone to death under similar circumstances. Terri is a warning for our
society to wake up before it is too late. United Future MP Gordon Copeland has also made a serious judgement of error
siding with the culture of death in this case. Is this part of the UF strategy to distance itself from appearing too
religious? In this he has gone too far.
