Still sailing strong- Wellington Navy Ship celebrates 20th birthday
The Royal New Zealand Navy’s Inshore Patrol Craft HMNZS WAKAKURA will celebrate her 20th birthday in Wellington this
weekend with a series of functions to mark her years of service.
Commissioned 20 years ago, HMNZS WAKAKURA is attached to the Naval Volunteer Reserve Unit HMNZS OLPHERT.
HMNZS WAKAKURA will be conducting short harbour sailings for families and invited guests on Saturday 19 March. These
will depart from Queen’s Wharf at 11:00am, 12:30 pm and 2:00pm, lasting one hour. Media are invited to participate in a
sailing.
Survey vessel HMNZS RESOLUTION and Australian frigate HMAS PARRAMATTA will also be berthed at Queens Wharf over the
weekend. Neither ship will be open to the public.
The Wellington Naval Volunteer Reserve meet at HMNZS OLPHERT, Corner of Buckle and Taranaki Streets, every Tuesday
evening at 7:00pm. Interested newcomers are welcome to attend.
