GPJA FORUM MONDAY The GPJA forum this Monday is on the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY themes of poverty and its affect on
women and children. A Naomi Klein video will also be shown. The next day March 8 there is an IWD MARCH starting at 5.30.
March 19 is a INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST WAR AND OCCUPATION to mark the second anniversary of the invasion of
Iraq. Posters and leaflets will be available at the GPJA forum Monday. Action is also being organised against the
Destiny Church march this Saturday. (See "What's On in Auckland" below for details)

Saturday, March 5, 10am, outside Burger King Lower Queen St *URGENT* CALL FOR PRESENCE AT DESTINY CHURCH
ANTI-GAY/LESBIAN MARCH THIS SATURDAY. Destiny church will be leading an anti-gay march up Queen St to Myers Park in
central Auckland this coming Saturday (5th March). A group has organised a peaceful demo called 'Don't Hate, Celebrate'
at the Auckland University away from the march. We recognise that previous Destiny marches have not been safe and we
support the 'Don't Hate, Celebrate' message and the safe option it provides for families & children. Some activists feel that it also absolutely necessary that there is also a physical presence *AT* the march.
We have the right to counter-demonstrate and we do not feel that we should be kept away from this right because of the
fear and hate that groups like Destiny preach. This is exactly what we are opposed to. Join us and stand up for what you
believe in: come and discuss possible actions/strategy that could be taken for this Saturday. We apologise for the short

feel that there is a need to build a broad, strong movement against all forms of discrimination and oppression and that

under the banner of 'Defend the Legacy' is marching in Auckland. They are walking up Queen Street into Myers Park for a
rally. Because of the hatred that the Destiny flock is spreading, and the experiences of many Civil Union celebrators
during the Wellington Enough is Enough march we feel it will not be a safe place either physically or emotionally for
those with a differing view.
Don't hate, celebrate! is a peaceful response the Defend the Legacy Destiny Church rally. Join in the fun, family
festival; Don't hate, celebrate! March 5th at the University Quad, Princess St, Auckland Central 11am - 2pm. Bring your

Tuesday, March 8, 7.30am, UNIFEM BREAKFAST TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2005. Guest speaker is Sandra
Alofivae- a senior family law practitioner of Samoan descent who specializes in children and youth issues. She has
wide-ranging experience working in the community and voluntary sector with a particular focus on education for families
and communities and has an extensive knowledge of family structures and the critical issues for Pacific families. Sandra
is a Youth Advocate who in October 2003 was appointed as one of two Manukau Advocates for Children and Youth ( this is
different - a collaborative venture between Manukau City Council, Child Youth & Family and Work & Income New Zealand ).
In 2004, Sandra was appointed a Family Commissioner which brings with it responsibilities for in-depth consideration of
issues that impact on families at a national level. She has a most interesting story to tell as she speaks to: "Facing

specifically how it is affecting women and children; Opposition to the war on terror and repressive legislation being
introduced in New Zealand; Stop violence against women and children.

IRANIAN REFUGEE. GPJA LETTER TO IMMIGRATION MINISTER PAL SWAIN Dear Mr Swain, Re Thomas Hossein Yadegary. We are calling
on you to exercise your authority and order the release of Thomas Yadegary who is being held in Mt Eden Remand Prison
awaiting deportation following his failure to be accepted as a political refugee. Thomas has been living in New Zealand
for the past 12 years and has contributed to our society over that time as a respected chef as well as in a variety of
roles in the wider community.
He is supported by his friends, colleagues, associates and members of the Christian community to which he belongs. We
have seen nothing to suggest that Thomas is not the honest, honourable, truthful and hard working person asserted by
those who know him personally. It is utterly deplorable that after 12 years living and contributing to New Zealand he
has now been arrested and it is your intention to deport him.
You are effectively keeping him hostage in prison - to be released only if he agrees to being deported to Iran! This is
the type of human rights tragedy the government has condemned in many countries around the world in a variety of
contexts. It is unconscionable that this should occur in New Zealand. Now behind bars Thomas is becoming stressed and
depressed, getting constant headaches.
He is under an enormous amount of pressure both psychologically and emotionally. Natural justice demands you release him
from prison and allow him to integrate as a New Zealand citizen. We are aware that there are other people in a similar
plight in Mt Eden Prison - such as A Mahebbi whose young children joined a protest outside the prison yesterday to
appeal for his release.
One cannot ignore the simple fact that if Thomas Yadegary and others in similar circumstances were white Zimbabweans

APPEAL TO ALLOW IMPRISONED PEACE ACTIVIST MS. TALI FAHIMA OUT OF SOLITARY We appeal to women and men of conscience
worldwide, especially members of the medical, psychiatric and legal professions, on behalf of Ms. Tali Fahima, an
Israeli peace activist whose conditions of imprisonment in prolonged isolation (since August 2004) threaten her
long-term wellbeing. Having closely followed her case, we strongly believe that the legal grounds for her detention and
prosecution are insubstantial and verge on the ridiculous. We believe it is used to deter Israeli and international
peace activists who seek direct contacts with Palestinians in grassroots activities.

reversed by the Supreme Court, a move which was sharply denounced by many commentators, including an editorial article
in the elite daily Haaretz, which said: "Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein's decision to place Tali Fahima under
arrest until the completion of proceedings against her is unreasonable and disproportional." (Feb. 6, 2005). Ms. Fahima
is being held in Neveh Tirza Women's Prison in complete isolation by the decision of the prison authorities. Her next
court hearing was scheduled for July 17, 2005! These conditions constitute vindictive harassment.
Concerned about the effects of imprisonment under conditions of total isolation on Ms Fahima, we appeal for your
intervention so that her conditions in prison are normalized in accordance with accepted Israeli and international
