Migration figures support case for higher wages
"The latest migration figures support the CTU case for a minimum 5% wage increase for all workers" CTU president Ross
Wilson said today
"If we are to keep our skilled workers we must progressively close the average 25% differential in wages between here
and Australia' he said.
"It is bizarre for ACT and National to try and deny that it was their disastrous low wage policies of the 1990s which
has created this situation." Ross Wilson said
"They should be supporting the steps being taken jointly by Business NZ, the CTU and the Government to improve labour
productivity through an investment approach."
"Instead they are proposing a return to the 1990s Employment Contracts Act and tax cuts which will compound the
problem."
"The objective should be to lift wages here, and to invest in skill development and other measures to improve
productivity"
