Correction
A media statement issued by ACT Ken Shirley MP today headlined ‘Labour Offers Civil Servants Carrot to Join Unions’ contained two inaccuracies which the Public Service Association (PSA) is taking this opportunity to correct.
Mr Shirley stated that the Ministry of Economic Development has paid out $395,462 in bonus payments to staff who are members of the Public Service Association since 2002. This is inaccurate. All staff whose positions came within the coverage of the collective agreements received lump sum payments to secure changes to their conditions of employment irrespective of whether they were union members or not.
Mr Shirley also stated that ‘the PSA is known as one of the Labour Party’s major funders’. This is incorrect. The PSA does not fund any political parties.
