A headline proclaimed on Monday: “PM wants more women working”.
This caring and baby-friendly Prime-Minister, Mrs Helen Clark, presides over a government which has ruled New Zealand
at a time when record and disgraceful abortion statistics remain a permanent blot on our nation – a nation increasingly
being desensitised to the slaughter of the innocents.
Perhaps this is part of Helen’s plan. What better way to get more women working than to kill as many babies as
possible. Then these poor unfortunate women who have been afflicted with what feminists consider a disease (pregnancy),
will be able to get back into the workforce and prove that they are as good as men when it comes to driving trucks;
being frontline troops in our armed forces; and as policewomen (should that be policepersons?) getting ‘bottled’ by
drunks outside the pub on Saturday night.
But Helen realises that abortion is not enough. Only 18,000 mothers will be able to use this efficient method of
getting back into the workforce, because only this amount of babies are being killed on an annual basis. While she and
her government figure out how to increase the number of abortions, Helen has hit upon another brilliant plan.
In her state of the nation speech, Vernon Small reports Helen will say that more needs to be done to provide childcare
because we need more workers. What a great plan. Get all the babies to be looked after by strangers and take the mother
out of their lives for the majority of time they are awake and then the mother will be free to go to work. But wait
there is more! Helen wants to now improve home-based care.
Mothers will no longer have to go into the child care centre, dump the baby and then get on with the career. Soon there
will be taxpayer-funded babysitters who will come into your home and look after your baby so that you can go to work.
Perhaps Helen will institute this brilliant plan to make the lives of mothers less boring. Perhaps she also has in mind
that she will pay a mother to go and baby-sit someone else’s kid and will pay a stranger to look after her brood as
well.
What a marvellous idea. All mothers can go out to ‘work’ and work in someone else’s home. In this way the feminists
will achieve their objectives of actually doing away with the terrible drudgery of motherhood. What a pity a way to kill
all the babies has not been thought of yet?
The assumption behind Mrs Clark’s brilliant plan is that mothers do not work. Mothers you are a lazy bunch. You might
get up at 5am prepare eight children for school and make all the lunches, including your husbands. Then there is the
vacuuming and ironing, the washing and the dishes. Then there is the voluntary work including work for the church. Oh, I
forgot. I should not have used the word ‘work’ to describe these activities.
Women are ‘workers’ in the home. We have still tens of thousands of able-bodied males and single women on the dole.
Cancel their dole and get them in the work force, and leave the mothers to do what is undoubtedly one of the most
important tasks in society – nurturing their children and being a help-meet for their husbands. Mother’s work is never
done, but it is a glorious work – and it is work.
The Bible has far better advice than Helen. Speaking of God’s blessing, the Psalmist says: “He makes the barren woman
abide in the house As a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD!” (Ps.113:9). Now that is wisdom!!
