INVITATION TO ATTEND HUI-A-IWI
Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa invite national and inter-denominational kaumatua to attend a hui-a-iwi to be held at
Turangawaewae Marae Friday 11 February 2005. The purpose of the hui is to hear submissions from the community at large
regardless of ethnicity, iwi affiliation or religious calling concerning the election of a person to the Office of the
Bishop of Aotearoa. The views and recommendations of the hui will be noted and conveyed to the Electoral College to
assist them in their deliberations and ultimate recommendation on who will be Te Pihopa o Aotearoa. Submissions should
cover but not necessarily be restricted to the following issues;
* What is the profile of the Church in the community?
* What is the profile of the Bishop of Aotearoa within that community?
* What are the attributes and qualities that the Bishop of Aotearoa needs to demonstrate in relation to that profile?
* How will the Bishop of Aotearoa participate in or even be a leader in the latest Maori renaissance?
* Who would be the right person to fill the Bishop of Aotearoa vacancy?
* What personal qualities should the successful candidate possess? Please note:
* A powhiri will be held 3.30pm Thursday 10 February 2005
* Marae accommodation is available
* Following the Hui-a-Iwi delegates of nga Hui Amorangi will meet in a separate Electoral College for the purpose of
electing a person to the Office of Te Pihopa o Aotearoa. This will take place on Saturday 12 February 2005, starting
9.00am
* Only delegates to the Electoral College are eligible to vote however the views and recommendations from the Hui-a-Iwi
will be given full consideration in the election process.
* The Electoral College will make a recommendation on who will be Te Pihopa o Aotearoa
* The Chairperson for the Hui-a-Iwi will be Mr Tumu Te Heuheu. A panel of prominent Maori leaders will form with Tumu
the Praesidium to conduct the Hui.
