Alan Bell - New Director For ECPAT New Zealand

ECPAT New Zealand’s new director takes up his position today.
Alan Bell, of Auckland had a distinguished career in business management in New Zealand which he left in 1979 to join
World Vision as Manager of the Wellington office. Subsequently he became a National Director – a position he held for
some 20 years. He then worked as Global Sponsorship Manager for World Vision International, a position involving travel
in more than 30 countries providing an intimate insight into the needs of the world’s children.
His new work with ECPAT New Zealand gives an opportunity to focus his energies on specific ways to protect children from
sexual abuse and trafficking.
Why does a successful businessman give up the financial rewards of the commercial world to work with a non-governmental
agency? Alan explains it as an inner drive to help people and assist those in greatest need.
“Working with the poor has been the most satisfying part of my life,” he says. It has enriched me and taught lessons
about the way people find the resources to survive even in the midst of suffering.” He looks forward to bringing his
skills to the work of ECPAT New Zealand.
Alan Bell replaces Denise Ritchie (Stop Demand Foundation) as the spokesperson for ECPAT New Zealand on all issues
relating to the prostitution of children, child pornography and child trafficking.
