Police appeal for information - North Shore's most wanted man
North Shore Police are making an appeal for information to assist in the arrest of Darren Douglas Shepherd.
The North Shore District Court issued a warrant to arrest Shepherd back in August 2004 in relation to dishonesty
offences.
Shepherd has managed to elude arrest on several occasions after Police have used information to establish where he was.
Last week he was driving a stolen vehicle and tried to evade Police by taking off at speed. After a short pursuit
Shepherd's car collided with a police patrol and he escaped on foot running through a person's house. Another time
Shepherd threw a dog at an officer to escape arrest.
North Shore/Waitakere/Rodney District Field Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Mark Franklin says, "Shepherd has escaped
capture on several occasions and each time he is only more of a risk and danger to the general public. We are appealing
for any sightings of him to be immediately reported to Police, anytime of the day or night.
Shepherd is aged 29 and is believed to travel in the top half of the North Island.
He is a male Caucasian with an olive complexion and medium build and black hair that may be shaven.
Detective Inspector Franklin says, "Shepherd is currently considered to be the District's most wanted person. The public
play an important role in maintaining a safe community so it is appropriate that we ask for assistance."
"We will accept information from anyone, including the criminal fraternity and often those closest to a wanted person
can provide the best information. There can be benefits in coming forward with such information alongside assisting in
the safety of the community. Such information is always treated confidentially and people can also come forward
anonymously," says Detective Inspector Franklin.
Sergeant Todd Bartlett of the Law Enforcement Team is heading up the effort to locate Shepherd and people can phone
anytime with information on 481 0359.
