Creative children embrace the spirit of Christmas
The Auckland City Mission Christmas Appeal has entered an exciting new phase with the unveiling of a series of
billboards designed by four Auckland schools. The designs which each portray a child's perception of the spirit of
Christmas were created by children from Parnell District School, Ponsonby Primary School, Stanley Bay School, Pt.
Chevalier School and Hillsborough Primary School.
"With their bright colours and bold designs, the children really have done a fantastic job to help raise money for other
disadvantaged children in the community" comments Ms. Diane Robertson, Auckland City Missioner.
“Not only have they designed the billboards, assisted with the radio, volunteered with our most successful street
collection yet and created all the artwork for our print advertising”; adds Ms Robertson, “but the whole television
campaign was produced with school kids in a small room and a camcorder.”
“Truly inspiring”, says Ms. Robertson. “… and the public response to the Appeal so far has been tremendous.”
These children are directly supporting the Mission to distribute over 20,000 present’s, 500 food parcels and 1200
traditional Christmas dinners to children, elderly and families who would otherwise miss out at Christmas. “To continue
this work, the Mission needs to raise $600 000 this Christmas,” concludes Ms. Robertson.
