Dr Charles E. Morrison: The US and the Asia-Pacific Security Environment after 9/11
“An event outside the Asia-Pacific region—the US-led invasion of Iraq—has been the single most important development in
the past two years affecting the security outlook and perceptions in the Asia Pacific.
“Simultaneously, a serious crisis on the Korean Peninsula and renewed terrorist attacks in South East Asia has reminded
all of us of the interconnectedness of security and the rapidity with which threats such as proliferation and terrorism
can spread to and affect any country.”
Charles Morrison is President of the East West Center in Hawaii and has a doctorate in Asian international relations
from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
This well respected American scholar is visiting New Zealand to speak about security issues affecting the Asia-Pacific
region.
Dr Morrison will be making presentations in Wellington at the Asia New Zealand Foundation national media seminar on
Wednesday, December 8th and at the US Embassy on Thursday, December 9th. He will be available for media interviews
during his visit.
