Media Advisory: Anti-GE Chickens invade KFC
From: Wellington Anti-GE Action
Date: 1 December 2004
Wellington Anti-GE Action (WAGE) invaded the KFC on Manners Mall today squawking about their use of Ingham’s GE fed chickens. KFC buys their chicken from Ingham. Tests commissioned by Greenpeace have shown that about 70% (up to much as 85%) of the soy used by Ingham is from GE sources. Ingham claim that using GE feed does not “compromise the absolute GM-Free status of the chicken.”
They can say this because of a flaw in the Australian and New Zealand labelling laws that does not require chicken raised on GE feed to be labelled. ‘We are asking all New Zealanders to help the country free of GE contamination by pressuring KFC to stop buying their chicken from Ingham’s said Valerie Morse, spokesperson for WAGE.
Flyers were handed to passersby to inform the public about KFC’s GE policy. WAGE supports the People’s Moratorium ( http://www.pmea.org.nz/pmea/?About_PMEA:The_Peoples_Moratorium ).
