Maori Party To Select Candidate For Tamaki Makaurau
The Maori Party Executive has approved the Tamaki Makaurau committee to go ahead with their candidate selection process.
“This is timely for our electorate, given recent circumstances, and to give certainty to our members who are keen to get on with the job of promoting their candidate for Tamaki Makaurau”, Toby Curtis, electorate chairperson said.
“Over the last three months, the momentum has been building throughout public hui, for the Maori Party to put forward a candidate for this electorate”, said Mr Curtis.
“During our recent, highly successful hui held in the context of the local body elections, we were given the clear message that the people are looking to the Maori Party, to stand a candidate at the next election”.
“We have listened to that call, and are today, inviting nominations to represent this electorate”.
“To get things underway we are holding a meeting of all members next Monday 25 October, at Nga Whare Waatea Marae, in Mangere, 2pm. At this meeting candidates will present themselves for the selection process. It is envisaged that the successful nominee will be announced later that day”.
“This is an exciting time for our people”, Toby Curtis said, “ It is our time to take on the challenge of providing quality political leadership for Tamaki Makaurau”.
