The Antidote #9 features:
OUTFOXED: Murdoch’s War on Journalism
Produced by Robert Greenwald (74 mins)
2004
The much talked documentary about "OUTFOXED: Murdoch's War on Journalism" provides an in-depth look at Rupert Murdoch's Fox News and the dangers of ever-enlarging corporations taking control of the public's right to know.
The film explores Murdoch's burgeoning kingdom and the impact on society when so much media is controlled by one person. Prominent Media experts provide context and guidance for the story of Fox News and its warped effect on society.
It shows blatant examples of a Bush agenda, particularly in the lead up to the last Presidential election and reveals how it was Fox news that first “called” the election win for Bush – even though it was illegitimate (spot which of Bush’s many relatives was involved this time).
This documentary also reveals the secrets of Former Fox news producers, reporters, bookers and writers who expose what it's like to work for Fox News, showing the networks’ motto “Fair & Balanced” tagline to be a cruel joke. These former Fox employees talk about how they were forced to push a "right-wing" point of view or risk their jobs and how this agenda was set in daily memos to staff.
As one employee said "There's no sense of integrity as far as having a line that can't be crossed." Director/Producer Robert Greenwald is the Executive Producer of the excellent documentary “Unprecedented: The 2002 Presidential Election” which Aotearoa Indymedia screened last year. A good accompaniment to the Aotearoa Indymedia doco “Whose News?” screened in June.
