Media Release Monday 27 September,
2004 National High School Career Advisors Join The Navy For Two Days
"A Life ... Less Ordinary Experience" awaits up to 40 Career Advisors from High Schools around the country. The Career Advisors will join the Navy's New Entry Training School in the Devonport Naval Base over the period 29 September to 1 October 2004 for a familiarisation tour. Just as a new recruit would do, the Career Advisors will be living and eating in the New Entry Training School and be exposed to a variety of Navy related activities, events and platforms to observe first hand that the Navy has much to offer those seeking a challenging and rewarding career.
The familiarisation tour is designed to provide the Career Advisors an insight of what is required of young Officers or Ratings under training so they can, in turn, impart their knowledge to potential candidates from their respective high schools who wish to join the Navy.
Starting with a 'Wakey Wakey" at 0600 every morning, activities over the two day period include a Powhiri at the Te Taua Moana Marae, tours, presentations and briefings in all the Navy's Branch and Trade Training Schools, Bridge Simulator, Damage Control (Fire and Flood), New Entry and Officer Training Schools, plus a visit to the Naval Support Flight at Hobsonville. Ends For further information please contact Lieutenant Barbara Cassin, RNZN Assistant Navy Public Relations Officer, Ph: (09) 4455002 or Mob: 021-2440638
