"Potential criminals eyeing up a good thing!"
Grey Power are appalled that the payment of compensation to criminals has been allowed to escalate to the extent it
has. There had been enough opposition to the original judgement earlier in the month to assume retrospective action
would have been taken to ensure NO further "claims " could be introduced.
"Compensation? Yes ! to the victims. Not to criminals who allege they have been deprived of their human rights while in
prison. They, the accused, should be made responsible for compensation to their victims through the courts when
sentences are handed down. These 'people' are not incarcerated for winning first prize at a Bible Class rally, nor are
they there for a 'good' time. Where has the understanding gone, " that a prison term is for punishment" NOT to be
holiday camp at ratepayers expense."
Grey Power calls on the Ministers responsible to introduce URGENT RETROSPECTIVE legislation to ensure these court
decisions are not continued. Should this action not be taken, it appears that crime does pay and with the present mood
of our judges there could well be a line up of criminals waiting to have their piece of the pie, let alone potential
criminals eyeing up a good thing.
