Top Speakers For Foreshore And Seabed Seminars
High level panels will look at the question of where to from here for the foreshore and seabed during two Waikato
University School of Law seminars to be held on 9 September (Wellington) and 15 September (Hamilton).
Judge Joe Williams, chief judge of the Màori Land Court and chairperson of the Waitangi Tribunal will be the keynote
speaker at the Wellington seminar to be held at Te Papa. He will examine possible jurisdictional changes to the Màori
Land Court.
Matiu Dickson, senior lecturer at the Waikato Law School, will look at how have we got to where we are and what is
happening now.
The function starts at 5.45pm in Te Papa's Rangimarie Rooms with finger food, while the seminar commences at 6.15pm and
ends at approximately 8pm.
An RSVP is essential for the Wellington event.
The second seminar in Hamilton includes:
* Waikato University law lecturer Harata Paterson who will discuss the history of foreshore and seabed issues and
discuss the current situation
* Judge Stephanie Milroy of the Màori Land Court, who will examine possible jurisdictional changes to the court
* Lawyer Annette Sykes will discuss where to from here for Màori.
* MP Nanaia Mahuta will give a closing address.
Refreshments and finger food will be provided from 5.30pm; the seminar commences at 6pm and concludes at approximately
8pm.
The venue is the university's PWC lecture theatre (signposted from Hillcrest Road, Hamilton and parking at Gate 7).
