"The National Council of Women of New Zealand (NCWNZ) is appalled by the senseless attacks on Jewish graves and in particular, today's attack at Makara Cemetery. The violations show a level of disharmony that should not be tolerated in New Zealand," said Beryl Anderson, President of NCWNZ.
"We are all partners in social cohesion. New Zealand society is built on the collective values that people hold, and how they engage and participate in society. That one segment chooses to violate a sector that have taken an active role in this partnership is a sorry state of affairs," she added.
"The Council of Jewish Women is a longstanding member of NCWNZ. Our sympathy goes to the Jewish community."
