Air Force Swoops into Matamata
Over a hundred and thirty people will descend on Matamata next week as the Air Force runs two exercises from the local airfield. Student pilots will fly their distinctive yellow and black Airtrainers in unfamiliar territory during Exercise Wiseowl (3-12 August).
The biannual event is designed to test the students when operating away from their home at RNZAF Base Ohakea.
Communications and Information Systems (CIS) personnel from bases all over New Zealand will take part on Exercise Tunex (2-11 August).
They will be training in the use of tactical radio and satellite communications, deployed computer networks, perimeter defence and weapons handling.
Both exercises will be run from a tented camp at the Matamata Airfield.
