NZ Red Cross Launches Flood Appeal
New Zealand Red Cross (NZRC) has launched an emergency appeal to help assist people affected by flooding and earthquakes in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
"As the scale of this disaster becomes apparent, it is obvious that a massive recovery job is needed," said NZRC Director General, Flora Gilkison.
"Our mission is to protect human life and alleviate suffering where-ever it occurs in the world. Now, it is time to help fellow New Zealanders in need."
Appeal funds will be used to assist affected people recover from the floods and earthquakes. No money will be deducted from the appeal for marketing or administration purposes. NZRC has already donated $40,000 of its own funds to kickstart the appeal.
"New Zealanders are always very generous in supporting the victims of natural disasters overseas," Mrs Gilkison said.
"We hope they will also show their support for fellow Kiwis at this difficult time. We are not seeking donated goods as monetary donations allow NZ Red Cross more flexibility to respond to affected family needs"
