High Profile Businessman Joins Tamaki Contest
Bartercard CEO, Denis Orme, Announces Tamaki Candidacy
Auckland, 15 July 2004 - High profile, successful businessman and entrepreneur, Denis Orme, today announced his candidacy for the contested National seat of Tamaki.
Denis Orme, CEO of Bartercard New Zealand, said he was encouraged by the recently announced contest for the safe seat and believed this was the right time for him to declare his interest in being the next Member of Parliament for Tamaki.
"I welcome the chance to seek selection for Tamaki, and think one of the things that make the National Party great is its openness to debate, transparency and encouraging people with new ideas to come forward. Many prominent and current National Members of Parliament have got where they have today by taking exactly the same steps that I am today," says Orme.
Orme says that while he respects the incumbent MP, Clem Simich, nonetheless after 12 years it was evident that theTamaki electorate wanted a choice.
"I am confident that I can bring all the benefits of my successful business career, international experience, fresh leadership approach and dynamic vision for New Zealand that will invigorate both the people of Tamaki and the National Party."
"I have huge respect for the people of the Tamaki electorate and want nothing more than to represent them as their next Member of Parliament."
