GE Free Road Show Heads Down the West Coast
After the successful launch in Nelson and a well received visit to Takaka, where they helped locals to set up their own anti-GE group, the GE Free Action Roadshow begins it’s journey down the west coast.
The brightly coloured truck with four activists and a dog are refocusing attention on the issue of GE. They have now been on the road three days and been greeted with hospitality and enthusiasm everywhere they have stopped.
“It us very clear to us from our visits so far that people are willing to do whatever it takes to keep GE out of their communities.” Says Lenka Rochford, media spokesperson for the roadshow and one of the four women travelling in the truck. Nine months on from the lifting of the moratorium anger over the governments betrayal has not subsided.”
“The weather is certainly cold but the reception for the roadshow’s message has been extremely warm! We are all beginning to adjust to life in the truck and groups we have visited have made sure we are well fed and looked after.”
The roadshow will be in Westport tomorrow (Saturday 10th July) making stops down the west coast to run a full day direct action training conference in Christchurch on Saturday 31th July.
