Destiny NZ, 'Your Power is in the Home' tour - TAURANGA
Elderly healthcare, superannuation and the growing 'third generation' were three of the key topics presented at last
night's Destiny NZ political meeting in Tauranga. Speaking to a crowd of more than 250 locals, sixty-six year old
Destiny NZ delegate, Peter Spratley, said New Zealand's senior citizens were an underestimated social and economic
asset.
"There is a commodity, which cannot be bought or taught, but can only be acquired with time; the wealth of accumulated
wisdom that life experience brings. Destiny New Zealand recognises that our senior citizens are an essential part of the
generational family and contribute an irreplaceable component to its success," he said.
The former Chief Executive of Burns Philp Agencies worked in the shipping industries in the UK and NZ for 38 years and
occupied senior management positions within Blueport ACT (NZ) and the NZ Wool Board. He also served in the British
Territorial Army and has lived in New Zealand for 34 years with his wife and children.
Party Leader Richard Lewis presented the party's Family policy.
"Destiny New Zealand developed its policies by starting with the family as our foundation," said Lewis. "By focusing on
the core family unit we begin a process whereby every policy category, whether it be health, education, welfare, justice
and our economy, is powerfully positioned to deliver maximum results for the individual, family and nation."
Destiny NZ's spokesman for economics, David Jesze, also outlined the party's desire to lower individual and corporate
tax rates with the end goal of a flat tax rate. The party is passionate about providing 'real' support to New Zealand
businesses and fostering an environment where success in business is rewarded and celebrated.
After the event Lewis said he was impressed with the response from the local public.
"I'm very happy with tonight's turnout - the feedback has been most encouraging. Our message is a simple one - our
children depend on strong families to succeed in life. People are genuinely concerned about the kind of environment the
present Government is fostering, one that undermines the vital contribution that families make to our society. Our aim
is to make families the priority of the next Government," he said.
Destiny NZ moves on to Gisborne today (Saturday 12 June) and will be presenting an overview of its policies at a public
meeting at Gisborne Girls High School at 7.00pm.
