NZ National Front Responds to Anarchist Press Release
In regard to the article: 'National Front Thwarted in Wellington' the so-called Wellington Activists responsible for this press release were an ad hoc group of anarchists who regard the National Front as of more significance than the impending threat to NZ workers by the NZ-China Free Trade Agreement.
The anarchist press release is misleading on most points. Beginning with the headline, no explanation is given as to how the group imagines they ‘thwarted’ the NF picket. The NF held its picket for approximately three hours, until at least half an hour after the sudden and unexplained departure of the Left.
The claim that ‘forty Wellington activists’ counter-demonstrated is incorrect. The contending parties were about evenly matched with several dozen each.
It is highly doubtful that Kyle Chapman, NF director, or any other NF supporters were at any time ‘exasperated’ or ‘frustrated’. The NF regarded the anarchist presence as highly entertaining.
The reference to ‘ridicule from the public’ is particularly baseless. No members of the public arrived to support the Left. However, numerous passers-by were happy to take the NF leaflets, while motorists tooted their support for the NF signs supporting jobs for NZ workers and opposing free trade.
The claim that the NF picketed the Chinese Embassy because of hatred of Chinese is an absurd preconception based on dogma. The picket was organised in opposition to the NZ China Free Trade Agreement, the framework of which was recently signed by Jim Sutton and Bo Xilai. If the Left had been capable of reading the leaflets offered to them, they might have comprehended this and the motives behind it. Once again the Left was content to play lackey to Big Business. The NF is opposed to free trade per se as contrary to our policy of economic nationalism.
Even the captions accompanying the photos are dubious. The wife of this writer was not engaged in ‘debate’ with a Leftist. At no time did the Left attempt any debate. She was outraged at the graffiti sprayed around the Botanical Gardens and even on adjacent flats.
If this writer is described as looking ‘shifty’ what is one to make of the Leftists attired in full-face masks?
So far from being ‘thwarted’ the NF supporters are extremely pleased with the picket, and with the congratulatory remarks from the police for our orderly and courteous manner, in contrast to the Left, whose activists were constantly impeding pedestrians and inciting violence.
