The LTSA is encouraging people to visit the new website www.uptoscratch.govt.nz to access road safety information and to
get their driving up to scratch.
The Up to Scratch website goes live on April 7 to provide road code and road safety related information to support the
new Up to Scratch road safety education initiative.
“Up to Scratch is designed to test people’s knowledge of the road code and road rules. Not everyone will know all the
answers, in fact most of us won’t – the whole purpose of this initiative is to increase our knowledge of the road rules.
We want to make that as easy as possible, so we’ve set up a dedicated website to help out,” LTSA General Manager
Communications and Education Liz Taylor-Read said.
“The website - www.uptoscratch.govt.nz - is an easy place to go to brush up on the road code and road rules.
“If people need help with the Up to Scratch test questions the website is the best place to go,” she said.
Up to Scratch is the new 10 question road safety education initiative that people will receive when they register their
vehicle, when their vehicle passes its warrant of fitness, when they change vehicle ownership or when they renew their
driver licence.
Approximately 10.7million Up to Scratch test brochures will be distributed every year.

“The road safety benefit of Up to Scratch occurs as soon as someone scratches the answer to the road safety question.
They will know straight away whether they have got the answer right or wrong.
“We’ve added an incentive to take part. If people get 9 out of 10 questions right they got into a quarterly draw for a
Toyota Avensis GX Wagon. There are other draws for road safety related prizes supplied by the New Zealand Automobile
Association such as driving lessons, pre-purchase vehicle inspections and petrol vouchers, and Beaurepaires such as
wheel alignments and tyres,” Ms Taylor-Read said.
The prize draws will take place every quarter with the first on June 30 2004.
