CTU Files on Employment Law Reform Bill: Why Can't Business Meet the Deadline?
“The Council of Trade Unions has filed a 77-page submission on the Employment Relations Law Reform Bill and is
challenging the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern) to explain why it can’t get its submission in on
time,” CTU president Ross Wilson said today.
The EMA (Northern) has claimed publicly that it hasn’t had sufficient time to prepare a submission on the Bill.
“The CTU has held seven national meetings of union representatives and completed a comprehensive submission,” Ross
Wilson said
“It is simply not credible that the well-resourced EMA Northern needs more than 12 weeks to prepare a submission on the
Bill,” he said. “It is just political posturing.
“And I didn’t hear the employers complain when the Employment Contracts Bill was rushed through over Christmas, 1990,
with a month’s less time to make submissions on that Bill than on the current piece of legislation.”
