New Zealand Nurses Organisation Go Purple Day – December 10
Nurses Show Fairness Is About
Giving As Well As Getting
On December 10 members of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation from the far north to the deep south will demonstrate the flipside of their Fair Pay campaign and show that fairness is about giving as well as getting.
In the spirit of Christmas, on the Nurses Organisation’s national Go Purple Day nurses will take up collections from their colleagues for local Women’s Refuges.
NZNO members around the country will deck themselves out in NZNO’s colour – purple - and Fair Pay t-shirts, stickers and banners to show support for the union’s Fair Pay campaign.
NZNO members’ donations made at Whangarei hospital will be picked up in a purple trailer and taken to women’s refuge.
Around 40 boxes from each ward at Christchurch hospital will be loaded onto a trailer and delivered to the refuge.
Even Balclutha’s tiny community-based hospital Clutha Health First will Go Purple for the day and NZNO members are collecting for women’s refuge.
The Fair Pay campaign is a campaign to achieve a fair pay rate for all nurses and midwives. Nurses are significantly underpaid compared to other professionals with similar skills, experiences and qualifications.
