Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party AGM Ends on a High
Cannabis activists from Hokianga to Invercargill gathered at the 8th Annual General Meeting of the Aotearoa Legalise
Cannabis Party in Christchurch last weekend and determined to step up the campaign for cannabis law reform.
The party also resolved to contest local body elections on the way to the next General Election in 2005.
Party Leader Michael Appleby pointed out that in the last election cannabis had been the crucial factor in determining
the present government. He promised that the Party would continue towards their goal of legalising cannabis for those
over the age of 18 years, so that cannabis would be treated exactly the same as alcohol or tobacco.
Mr Appleby noted that the Health Select Committee’s Report on Cannabis reflected the Party’s policy of regulation, and
looked forward to the issue being properly addressed by the Justice and Electoral Committee.
Delegates elected a new President, Kevin O’Connell, of Kaikoura, and two new regional representatives. They were Judy
Daniels from Northland/Te Tai Tokerau, and Paul McMullan for the South Island.
After the meeting members, guests, and whanau dined and danced to four Christchurch bands, and the evening finished on a
high with exotic dancing by Mata Hari.
