Open Letter to Kerry Prendergast from the Wellington GE Free Coalition
This letter was posted at the campsite near Parliament, the GE-Free camp has now moved on to Parliament grounds.
Dear Kerry Prendergast and Gary Poole
On the 25th of October, a peaceful camp of people protesting the lifting of the GE moratorium erected our tents outside Parliament grounds, on an area deemed a ‘public recreational reserve’.
On the 26th of October, we were approached by the head of security for the Wellington City Council. We had a polite conversation with him and invited him to visit at any time.
Later that day, we were again approached by the head of security for WCC, accompanied by two police officers. They informed us that we were required to leave by 10am the following morning or we would be served with trespass notices. The WCC head of security indicated that there had been NO public complaints. He further indicated that this decision had been made by both of you.
This is another instance of your attempts to silence any voices offering alternatives to the business interests that you serve, and a further example of your lack of democratic values.
We are therefore requesting copies of all documentation relevant to your decision on this matter to be released to us at the following address:
1 Hudson Street Island Bay Wellington
Yours sincerely, The Wellington GE-free Coalition
