Security Council resolution won’t stop the killing
‘The unanimous decision by the UN Security Council to support the US military force in Iraq does not legitimise what was and still is an illegal and immoral war and occupation.’ Said Peace Action Wellington member Valerie Morse
‘Only days ago, France, Germany and Russia were prepared to veto the Resolution as it was written. They have now voted in favour of it, rather than just abstaining. The USA, desperate for any support, has clearly given them whatever carrots were necessary to get their help.’
‘Needless to say, the Iraqi people will not be fooled by this blatant trading of favours by foreign governments. The resistance to the illegal occupation will continue, and unfortunately, UN and NZ soldiers will be targets.’
‘The USA and the UN must realise that they cannot just simply invade a country, set up a puppet government and then carve up its resources for exploitation by multinational corporations. This war will continue on for a long time.’
Peace Action Wellington demands a recall of all NZ troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
