Wellington GE demo should be a cracker!
Saturday's anti-GE demonstration in Wellington will be large, loud and lively say organisers.
The demonstration, part of a national day of action, will pressure the government to extend the moratorium on the commercial release of GMOs into the environment says demonstration organiser Maibritt Pedersen
“Time is running out for the Labour government to get behind the people of this country. The government needs to decide whether it is going to continue to back the interests of overseas corporates or side with New Zealander's desire to stay GE-free.”
The march will begin at Civic Square at 12.00 noon, from there it will progress to parliament where there will be various sorts of street theatre and the band Tommy will play. There will be no boring speeches from politicians, or anyone else, Promise.
The demonstration is organised by the Wellington GE free coalition. Demonstrations will also be taking place this Saturday in Auckland, Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin. See www.thebigmarch.net.
