French Expert On The Great War To Visit
A leading French historian will visit Wellington in November to help mark the 85th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Dr Pierre Purseigle of Oxford University will take part in a conference that will bring together more than thirty overseas and local speakers to discuss the war to end all wars. 'We are delighted that Dr Purseigle is able to come out for the occasion', chairman of the organising committee Ian McGibbon said.
'Given the number of New Zealanders who lie in graves in France, and the plans to bring one home as the Unknown Warrior next year, it is great that sponsorship by the New Zealand France Friendship Fund has made it possible for us to host an expert on France's huge effort in the war.'
The conference, Zealandia's Great War, will be held at the National Library from 7 to 10 November.
