Radio Waatea (603AM) in Auckland, Mondays 10am-12pm
Listen today to Paakiwaha, an exciting weekly current affairs programme with a Maori perspective. Paakiwaha is hosted by
Willie Jackson and is broadcasted by Radio Waatea with funding from New Zealand on Air.
Last week, the Government concluded its series of foreshore and seabed consultation hui with Maori. Willie interviews
Wira Gardiner and Bill English on their respective views of the hui. Paakiwaha also presents brief excerpts of
submissions presented at the last hui held at Nga Whare Waatea marae in Auckland by June Jackson (National Urban Maori
Authority), Roimata Minhinnick (Ngati Te Ata); Dennis Hansen (Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust) and Margaret Mutu ( Ngati
Kahu). Hon Parekura Horomia’s closing comments at that hui are also given. The new Children’s Commissioner, Dr Cindy
Kiro tells us whether we need an anti-smacking law and this week’s arts guest is the inimitable, Maori king of the
Boards, George Henare. Sports commentator Ken Laban gives his weekly sports roundup and political reporter Duncan Garner
tells us his predictions for the week.
So tune into yet another promising, debate packed programme!
