BIA Releases Submissions on Timber Treatment and External Moisture Management Proposals
Chief Executive of the Building Industry Authority, Richard Martin, said more than 300 submissions had been received by
the BIA on proposed changes to the requirements for treatment of house framing timber and external moisture management
in New Zealand houses.
“We are very pleased with both the number and quality of submissions received. They will help inform the decision of the
Authority”.
“The submissions amount to more than four thousand pages and offer extremely useful perspectives on the issues under
consideration,” said Mr. Martin.
The BIA is making the submissions it has received publicly available.
“While the Authority is still considering the submissions and has not yet formed any final views, we believe that making
them available now will help to develop public understanding of these important issues,” said Mr. Martin.
The BIA is aiming to make final decisions before the end of the year. The exact timing will depend on several factors,
including the time required to consider the content of the submissions.
The final changes will be contained in Building Code clause E2 and approved documents E2/AS1, E2/VM1 and B2/AS1.
