Greenpeace has today announced they support the call by Mothers Against Genetic Engineering (MAdGE) for a march up Queen St on Saturday 11 October demanding an extension to the GE moratorium.
“Now is the time, more than ever, for people to stand up and show their support for GE free New Zealand by marching to demand that the GE moratorium stay in place,” said Greenpeace spokesperson Steve Abel.
“The Government are risking New Zealand’s environment, economy and food chain in the name of political stubbornness. Helen Clark must listen to the public of whom 68% (1) are saying the moratorium should be extended,” said Abel.
Greenpeace is seeking the support of volunteers to help promote the rally and is strongly urging people to take time from their day on Saturday 11 to make their voice heard in defence of clean green New Zealand.
“No wise Government can continue to ignore the will of the people, particularly if we are prepared to take to the streets in our thousands – which is what we must do,” concluded Abel.
