New Zealand Woman On World Council
The International Council of Women (ICW) has elected Jane Prichard of Auckland, a former Vice-President of the National
Council of Women of New Zealand (NCWNZ), to the International Board of ICW.
“New Zealand’s reputation for taking an active stance on world issues and not being afraid to voice an opinion on the
world stage has been acknowledged by the election of Jane Prichard to this prestigious position,” stated Beryl Anderson,
NCWNZ President, currently attending the ICW General Assembly in Perth, Australia.
“Jane Prichard, through her involvement with the National Council of Women of New Zealand and many other community
organisations, brings to ICW an expansive knowledge of international matters and how they impact on the Pacific, and on
women in particular,” said Ms Anderson.
“Jane has strived for greater participation of New Zealand and Pacific women in advancing their status and has advocated
for the cooperative strengthening of the Pacific voice.”
“We also acknowledge the contribution made by Alison Roxburgh of Nelson, who has just stepped down as Vice President of
ICW, and the efforts she made to ensure the concerns of the women of the Pacific region were heard in the international
arena,” added Beryl Anderson.
The International Council of Women, founded in 1888, is a non-political, non-governmental organisation of no particular
religious philosophy, and is representative of women’s organisations in all continents. Its mission is to improve the
status of women and the well being of society in general, with an objective to support Human Rights and protection
against all forms of discrimination.
The triennial ICW General Assembly, which started on 31 August, will run until 5 September 2003. Some attendees will
then attend the “Women Wise Waterways” seminar hosted by the National Council of Women of Australia.
