Alliance remains commtted to Nuclear Free policy
‘The Alliance remains completely committed to New Zealand’s Nuclear Free policy.’ said Alliance spokesperson, Mike Treen.
‘The key reason why we will not get a ‘free’ trade agreement with the United States, is that we have nothing they want. The linking of trade to this issue is a farce.’
‘In addition, the connecting of our Nuclear Free stand with the ‘War on Terrorism’ illustrates clearly that the US government is again using this ‘war’ to further its hegemony and neo-conservative political agenda.’
‘The United States government is withdrawing from nuclear treaties, developing tactical nuclear weapons for pre-emptive use, and its reckless foreign policy has also led to more countries with nuclear weapons. In such a world, we must stand strong.’
‘As a small country, we should continue our work internationally towards a nuclear-free world. If we truly had an independent foreign policy we would be demanding that our ‘good friend’ stop its development of ‘tactical’ nuclear weapons, and reckless behaviour.’ concluded Mike Treen.
