Plunket welcomes appointment of Commissioner for Children
Plunket welcomes the appointment of Dr Cindy Kiro as the Commissioner for Children, the Office's fourth commissioner.
"We find it refreshing that Dr Kiro's background as a mother and a volunteer in her community are as welcome and important as her professional qualifications.
"Her interest in policy-making and the way in which children are affected by decisions is crucial if we are to collectively improve the outcomes for our children," said Plunket New Zealand President Mrs Kaye Crowther.
Plunket has a close relationship with the Office of the Commissioner for Children. Eight months ago the two organisations formed the Littlies Lobby, a cross party Parliamentary Children's Caucus which seeks to ensure that Members of Parliament consider the implications of all policy on children.
The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society is New Zealand's leading well child health provider caring for over 50,000 new baby cases each year and making over 505,500 home and clinic visits annually. The Society also provides: antenatal and parenting education support programmes; parent support group; car seat rental schemes and other services for children and families.
The Society employs over 980 staff and has 8,000 volunteers throughout New Zealand.
