Greenpeace: Clarification On Media Release
To the Editor
A clarification on the Greenpeace Press Release today, Wednesday July 2, 2003, entitled Nga Hau E Wha: Wind potential for Maori.
In our press release we have said “In 2013, many country line services will be disconnected from the main grid throughout Aotearoa. This will affect marae and rural communities nationwide. In some areas wind farms may be a good solution, giving electricity independence and possibly receiving rental from lands with wind turbines on them if arrangements are made with electricity companies to feed back into the national grid.”
We wish to clarify this point:
After 2013, lines companies will no longer be obliged to maintain lines that are not economically viable for their business. This may result in many remote lines sections being disconnected after 2013, which may impact many Maori communities.
Thanks and apologies for any inconvenience on this point.
