"Come clean National Bank!" union urges
"For the third time we urge the National Bank to come clean and tell its staff and customers whether or not it is for sale," said Andrew Casidy, General Secretary of Finsec, the union for bank workers.
"The bank has so far refused to supply any further information, other than to say that the rumours are only 'market speculation'.
"However, media comment has moved beyond the realms of speculation to more detailed reports. It is time the National Bank either confirmed or denied reports that is is for sale.
"Take-overs and mergers, in our experience, have significant consequences for staff, customers, communities and the economy.
"The National Bank has a responsibility to come clean and confirm or deny the rumours," concluded Andrew Casidy.
