Banned from Aotea Square!
International J Day celebrations planned for Aotea Square this Saturday must be moved to Albert Park, after The Edge
refused to allow the event to proceed.
Nothing has been received in writing, but The Edge security called on Wednesday night to inform NORML that the cannabis
community does not comply with their idea of "family values" for the public sqaure.
Permitted Aotea Square activities apparantly include St Patrick's Day drunkenness and driving fast cars.
National Organisation for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) president Chris Fowlie expressed outrage at cannabis
smokers being treated like "second-class citizens", and being excluded from a public square. NORML was threatened by The
Edge security with tresspass notices if we held J Day in the public square.
Mr Fowlie said that at this late stage with all the promotional work done, it was inevitable that supporters would still
meet first in Aotea Square. A NORML delegation will meet supporters there and guide them up to the traditional J Day
venue of Albert Park.
Activities planned for Albert Park include DJs Big Matt, The Chaplain, Selecto, Sensei, Blue Meanie and Mr Bongaloo;
speakers including Nandor Tanczos, Chris Fowlie, Green Cross, the Switched On Grower's Ironman, hemp store, Knaster
joints, rolling contests, and much more.
